Stimulants and the body

Crash, sleep, and mood. General notes only.

Safety. Stopping heavy drinking, benzodiazepines or some other drugs suddenly can be dangerous, so talk to a GP first, or call 000 in an emergency. HomeCircle never gives doses or tapering plans. A GP or a drug and alcohol service can plan that with you.

People often describe these rough stages. They are not a diagnosis and they are not a prediction for you.

Severe withdrawal can be dangerous. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing, a seizure, confusion, heavy vomiting, or you collapse, call 000. You can also call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

The crash: some people feel flat, hungry, or asleep for a long stretch after stopping.

The next days: mood can dip and cravings can spike. This page cannot tell you which one you are in.

Later: sleep and patience often need time. A GP can look at heart symptoms, mood, and safer next steps.

For any health concern, talk to your GP or a doctor. HomeCircle is support, not medical care.
