One-thing focus
Ten minutes on one ordinary task.

Pick one small task. Dishes, a shower, a walk to the end of the street.
When your mind leaves, come back to the task. You are practising returning, not performing.
Where this comes from
This is everyday mindfulness: giving full attention to one ordinary task. Mindfulness has its roots in Buddhist meditation, and practising it during daily jobs like washing up is widely taught today.
Why it can help
Each time your mind wanders and you bring it back to the task, you are practising. It gives a restless mind something gentle to do and can ease stress. Beyond Blue describes mindfulness as something you can do anytime, anywhere, without formal meditation.
